HELP! Stranded! Need answers about thermostat housing.
Hello
The hose from the radiator to thermostat housing has snapped on our 2002 Disco. I have located the part locally and am wondering what I need to know about installation. It seems/looks pretty straight forward. What about bleeding the coolant system afterward? I am not sure how to do that. ANY advice or pointers would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Gabe

after you replace the hose fill up the expansion tank with 50/50 collant water mix, lossen the bleed screw and just pop the expansion tank out of its snap in seat. Lift up the expansion tank as high as it will go until you get a steady stream of collant out of the bleed screw, tighten screw, snap tank back in, done.

Hello,
Thanks for the quick responses! I think I got it. After driving all over creation I got the part at AutoZone only to find, at the truck, it's not the right part! I found the right part at Napa ($60 cheaper!) and it'll be here tomorrow.
To bleed the system, do I loosen or remove the bleeder screw on the hose going into the back of the radiator? Once I fill the tank, lift as high as the hose will allow and see the stream from this screw, that's it, right?
As always, thanks for all the help. This seems like an easy (knock on wood) and cheap (for a Disco) fix! Below are pictures of my broken thermostat.
Cheers,
Gabe

Yeah, your t-stat snapped. Hope you ordered a new thermostat. I wasn't aware Napa stocked our T-Stat
Just loosen the screw and follow the method you described above.
Now is an opportune time to dump/flush out that red death coolant and refill w/ green Coolant.
I would suggest reading through this thread before attempting the bleed.

Coors,
What does a flush entail? Additionally, do I need to worry about the water level in the radiator. I read SavannahBuzz's "Cooling System Problems" chapter on thermostats and I am a little more clear now...

I found a new 180* match at AutoZone, they matched Napa's $40 price! Score! And ,yes, Buzz, I was almost on my way out to LKQ...
