help with vin numbers
I was asked today when checking on plugs and wires if my discovery was vin2 or vin5 what are they asking me??? this may sound stupid but I said 2door or 5door help please
The 5 door is more common. Plugs are plain old Champion coppers here in the US, and silicone 7 or 8 mm wires. These are thicker insulation than factory, and hold up longer under the hood where Rover keeps it on the warm side.
Not a clue what the parts guy was asking for, here is page on the VIN code info, there is no "five" as a valid value.

I know exactly what this guy is asking, or at least what most big brand consumer websites ask, here's a picture from oreillyauto.com vehicle finder:

Almost every auto parts store uses the same online website template for searches, they all ask which vin. I've yet to decipher which vin I have! I'm SALTL but I do have a #2 as the seventh digit in the VIN. Does everyone else have a 2 or 5 as the 7th digit?

In NAS trucks it will be a "2" for the 4 liter V8, 9.35:1 compression ratio (high compression by Rover standards), there is also a low compression 8.2:1 variant of the engine, perhaps a California emissions model? But the shop manual does not show a "5" as a valid value.
My VIN breakout chart is showing 7th digit as follows:
1 = 4.4 M62 & 3.5 V8 (87-88)
2 = 2.5 KV6 & 3.9/4.0 V8
3 = 4.2 AJV8 (SC) & 4.2 V8 (LWB Classic)
4 = 4.0 V6 & 4.6 V8
5 = 4.0 V8 LEVS & 4.4 AJV8
6 & 9 = 4.6 V8 LEVS
LR2 uses 8th digit as engine code, which would be "A" for the 3.2 SI6.
