Default Helpful suggestions please

I bought my 2nd 04 disco about a month ago, with 87000 miles. Got a it for a fair price and new what was probably going to happen so far as repairs. Took it in to get looked over at motorcars in Houston and got back a 6 grand list of problems. I want to save as much money as possible so I would like to learn how do everything I can. As of now I'm not losing oil, and my coolant is going down slightly every 400 miles or so. I have a small clear oil puddle right under my engine and not sure what it is. Also engine is bucking on highway but not consistently. If anyone is in Houston and wants to help a green horn I am all in. Thanks

clear oil? you sure it's not coolant?

Sounds like head gaskets unless it's just leaking. 6k is absurd, worth more than the car at this point. Did they give you a list of what it needed?

you need to do a pressure test or at least a color change exhaust in the coolant system test. I agree with ^Zack^ for 6k you would be needing a whole new truck.
there are a few guys from houston on here. I'd venture to say that someone has a better indy rover shop, in mind, that will give you a legit estimate. more than likely you are going to need head gaskets. at last count, this forum has just under 13,657,901 threads on the subject. that should be a little help.
good luck

Yeah I got a list, head gaskets....of course, along with rear drive shaft and components, front brakes, O2, and some others "don't have the list on me". But the head gaskets are 3 grand and I'm not gunna pay for that just to do it again farther down the line. I want to get mine rebuilt when I have too. He recommended Steel Seal and I didn't have anything to lose so I flushed my coolant and put it in. It worked as fair as I can tell. I had six sensor errors and after that I only have one which is cylinder 1 misfire. And the fluid is thicker than the coolant

LOL @ rear driveshaft, really??? Can you post a photo of this list? Rotoflex is like $70, fron brakes are $125 or so, 02s are $60 each, etc.

I got it with full intention of keeping it and turning it into a reliable on/off-road vehicle. I just don't have the funds to get it all done right now, so I'm trying to piece it together. I have a cummins that I can always drive if the rover is down

Yeah I have spent the last couple of weeks learning all the part prices and common faults. Which is why I didn't just hand it over to them. But I'm not a mechanic by any means.... But I have the will!

have you downloaded the rave shop manual? free and there are several links on this site. I don't have a link, because I bought a disk before I knew I could download free
