Default High idle upon startup

1996 disco Lately when I start my truck the idle goes up to about 2k and stays there until I drive it. For the first 5 min of driving it chokes and hesitates at stops. Then for the rest day its fine. I alredy tried cleaning the idle control valve. Any other ideas?

no in fact it has recently been serviced and has been running great. The hotter the weather the worse it seems to be though.

Your throtle body and stepper motor need to be cleaned, that will brin your idle back in line unless your stepper is too far gone then you may need to replace it.

You were on the right track in my mind to have targeted the idle control valve. I guess I would start by checking all my vaccum lines for cracks or exposure. I suppose it is of course possible that it still could be the ICV, but I'm a bit lost on this one. I'm sure Mike will have some good input.
