High/Low NOT working while driving
Ah yes the classic Disco 2 high/low not working! In this case I can rule out the troublesome solenoid as its been removed and we have put in an aftermarket CDL. I have removed the center console and the shifter has been installed on the black metal plate that ISN'T riveted down to the plate as we noticed issues shifting and decided to fix it before sealing. Now for what we know about the shifter, we know it can shift to high/neutral/low and have gotten it to work when the engine was on/off with it. We have shifted while stopped and while rolling under 5 mph. With all this testing done we took it to Hollister Hills OHV yesterday and we couldn't shift it into neutral or low (we could shift the CDL just fine), we decided because the car could only do the easy trails we went back and let the Disco cool down. When it was cool it acted like it had before we went. Today I took the car and drove it for 35 minutes going between 55 and 65 mph, and it wouldn't shift (CDL shifted fine). Once again let it cool down and it shifted just fine. I was able to confirm it was in neutral and low by driving around my neighborhood and seemed to work great! I'm looking for a fix as I'm planning on taking the Disco to DV in a week!

I tried both! that wasn't the issue but we have figured it out! (I think) I wiggled the transmission shifter while it was hot and it seemed to work! Idk why or how but I plan on testing it again tomorrow before sealing it all up in the coming days. I also got the out of gear light and sound on the dash when I was in neutral which idk if its a good sign or not (I didn't get it before). If anyone knows what exactly went wrong I'm all ears but knock on wood the problem is over!
On a different note the CDL light on the dash doesn't constantly come on constantly when the CDL is engaged (I can hear it shifting and it seems to behave like it) I'm not sure if this is a problem and what caused/can be done to fix this (I have installed an Ashcroft cdl kit but HAVEN'T cut the wire it said to cut bc I want to wire a switch in there but don't have time before a trip) and is it a problem if it don't cut it? I'm not sure what's good practice with rovers as this is the first rover I've worked on despite years of off-roading. Im also new to this forum and not sure if I should make this a different thread (please let me know).
Thanks!

Source a SLABS unit from a 2003-2004 truck and you don't have to cut the wire. There are a lot of threads on here that discuss this issue, including providing the part number for the unit you need.
Sometimes the switches stick when they get old. They might need to be pulled out and cleaned. They can also work improperly if they're screwed in too far (or not far enough).

Even if you do not need to use Low, I always try to engage it and drive a few moments in it at least once a month, preferably once a fortnight. Just keeps everything working. When I bought my Disco, it was almost impossible to get into Low range, but now it does it tolerably well.
