Just did an oil change, and when i went to unscrew the oil cap on the top pass. side of motor, the entire thing unscrewed from the motor. correct me if im wrong, but the cap is supposed to come off the black plastic cylinder that screws into the motor right? lol it screwed back in but i cant get the cap off independently... its SUPPOSED to right? im not goin crazy?

 

My cap is nearly fused onto the filler neck so the neck always comes off when I do oil. Makes a mess if I don't use a funnel but it happens.

 

Mine does the same thing. I can get just the oil cap off though once they both cone off. Maybe some thread lock on the filler neck could solve the problem?

 

This is probably a universal problem. My cap gets stuck to the filler every now and then. It will come off and work fine too. Just clean everything up and don't worry.

 

If you have a bench vise, put the tube in the vise and turn toe cap with a pair of channel locks.
This is not supposed top happen but can if you tighten the oil fill cap to tight.

 

I cleaned mine and added some black RTV to it, now just the cap unscrews

 

I think putting the tube in a bench vice might crush it. It you have a pipe vice that puts pressure more evenly around the tube it might work. Mine just came loose the next time I wanted to take it off. I aways use a funnel anyway so it wasn't a big deal, but I'm careful now not to tighten it too tight.

 

Mine does the same thing, I use Channel-Locks to hold it in place while I unscrew the cap.
I just carry Channel-Locks in my truck for adding oil.

 

Mine did the same thing once. I used a Pipe wrench to tighten the filler neck back down really tight. Now the cap comes off everytime without the neck too.

 

So the filler neck is threaded?
For some reason when I had my valve covers off I thought it was on there with a snap ring?
