Default Hmmm Sunlight Sensor gone bad?

Hmmmm HMMMMMMMMM. well today I decided as a last ditch effort after replacing many a/c parts over a few years and noticing i just could not make it cold and if it is sunny it would run hot and creep up temps.. id turn a/c off during intersections and slow traffic in hot south florida or it would just go upwards of 215 deg.. im running the lower temp thermostat.. with A/C off it purrs like a kitten in hot July august Florida heat even in rush hr around 188-194 .. it alwasy an issue.. ive replaced condenser fan even after having all ac system evaced, i installed new compressor and had it recharged... once about 8 years ago but its always been an issue... I think I have checked codes on climat control module and dont recall having any... anyway it could be an intermittent issue... now.... the test...

Today I got a wild brained idea to cover the sunlight sensor... HMMMMMM ITS BLOWING COLD AND NOT OVERHEATING! any comments? I may try replacing it I was even in slow traffic and it never went above 195! Ill be testing more today on way to work! all these years and it could be this simple? lol if it is this should be a sticky! lol

If you do the A/C Self Test and the Sensor is in the sun it should tell you if it is working or not.

And I am going to try this.

is it possible this sensor could be related to overheating from your knowledge?

If you have your ac set to "lo" I don't think that sensor even comes into play....

I just drove to work in 100deg 100% humidity south Florida and it never went over 197!! 30 min drive 25 mph average speed with stop signs! normally id had to turn it off , so this is 2nd time experiment and a HUGE difference for me at least... ill try a couple more days same weather then Ill try without again... to get a constant baseline... also at night a/c works perfect no overheating but in past I attributed it to just not being too cold outside.. same thing for winter months when its not quite as hot and its more dry

This didn’t do much for me as far as I can tell. But having the tea A/C off seemed to make a big difference.

HVAC completely off is a huge difference. Sensor wise nada zip no change here.

you may have a different issue like the condenser fan intermittent or sluggish? i had about every A/C problem out there when I first bought disco second hand the clutch seized up and burned up compressor at a stop sign.. 1/2mile from home i replaced that about 7 years ago ish... same time new dryer and it was ok but never great. then it would just run hotter that i thought it should but nothing crazy( no more that 203deg which is basically normal) ... then changed out fan a few times and even modified the cooling system which helped some but i kept suspecting the main engine fan clutch but it would just heat and cool oddly and on highway something run hotter when it should be cooler and then this and that.. Eventually i figured out the condenser fan was also a culprit... changed it out and knew it was working and then all way happy... as long as a/c was off at stop signs lol now I find covering my sunlight sensor has made t normal.. mostly... but as expected if it senses dark it wont cool as much.. lol so.. im now thinking of changing out the sensor and see if thats the issue! its all been decent and never let it overheat but summer is when its rough so i just rolled down windows and saved money on repairs and put money towards other repairs like shocks and springs and broken plastic parts and And AND! i still love it! lol on the short though... make sure your condenser fan is not intermittent or weak... that can cause a temperature change as you already know and it was one of my issues early on ? im by no means the certified landy mechanic unless having one running for 8 years certifies me lol but i do all my own work and have been able to solve most issues lol through trial and error... and this forum! lol
