Default Hood latch ??? Diagrams?

So in the middle of winter here in Wisconsin I couldn't get my hood open and ended up breaking the plastic t-handle instead. I bought a new cable and went to replace it. I unscrewed the bolts in front of the radiator and a few metal pieces fell on the ground. Now I don't know how to piece everything together again. I looked on the RAVE CD and didn't find any pictures. Does anyone have a diagram of the latch that the cable attaches to? Is there a spring in there somewhere? Mine didn't have a spring so I'm wondering if that was what was causing the hood to not want to open. Thanks and this is on a 1999 D1.

Default Hood Latch Problems

It may not help much but i drive the same truck, had the same problem. due to a little wheeling mishap. after looking at the price of the cable and the headache your about to have running a new cable (i couldn't even get somebody to attempt it with me). i bought some hood pins at autozone for $10, welded in two "L" brackets for them to bolt to and called it done.
it's as strong as you could ever need and looks pretty sweet too (IMO). keep the manual latch under the hood for safety. good luck

Hah, I broke part of half of the "T" from my hood latch handle a few weeks ago. Mine is still working fine so I've been waiting to fix it. Let us know if you find anything.

On all Disco's with the exception of the 03 and 04, you can pull the drivers headlight assembly straight out the front and reach up a cut/pull the hood release cable.
Learned that little trick while playing with my new HID head lamp conversion.

What makes the cable so hard to pull?

Lack of grease, being stretched, out of adjustment or bent take your pick.

I don't know about the DI but the DII has a spring. When my hood started giving me problems I tighten the bolt that's in the middle of the spring cause it to compress more..I haven't had a problem with the hood since. hope this helps.

There was no spring in mine, that's what has me wondering if maybe a spring fell out. I've checked all over and no one really has a diagram or know how that assembly goes together. Maybe I'll have to go with hood pins.

We have an 04 and the cable has come loose so the hood won't open. As we also have an a 2000 I've looked at it.

And have 2 questions and am wondering; First is the latch in the same place as on the 04? Secondly can I insert something in that hole I see in the assembly below the latch and push it upwards to release the latch?

I would find it surprising if Land Rovers techs didn't have a fairly easy way of solving the opening the hood.
