My original hoodliner was party being used by the mice, so decided to replace the half eaten liner with some Dynamat. Also, installed two new fluid squirters.

 

Look nice. Mine has had a tear in I since 2001 when when pulley disintegrated. If you don't mind me asking what did it cost and what did you buy to do it?

Did this myself without help. Only awkward thing is the width of the hood, but it's pretty light.

As a wider question, what does the liner serve to do? Apart from give rodents nesting material? (I found an old nest in my air filter box and a big chunk of liner missing when I bought mine?)

Is it keeping heat in (seems an odd thing to do, considering the efforts we go to to keep temps low) or stopping sound escaping (also odd, as no extra noise would make it into the cabin, I doubt)

Or is there some other reason to have a hood liner? Only thing I can think of is if the vehicle is regularly turned off and on it might maintain a more constant engine temp, increasing efficiency. Maybe.

Anyone removed it to see how it affects temps? I can fully imagine removing the entire hood would keep things lower, so taking the main insulating part away should do also.

 

I think it is for noise and to keep your paint a little cooler on top of the hood. Alex_M took his off, if I recall correctly, and suffered no ill effects.

Didn't notice any weight diff when I lifted the hood to re-install.

Now that I think about it... the hole in mine (from an exploding pulley and belt), which has been there for over a decade, leaves no part of the hood looking strange.
