Hose Clamps
Just thought I'd throw this out there after dealing with all new hoses on my truck. I know everyone loves the spring clamps, they actually work pretty well and I didn't know why something that was such a pain in the **** to get on and off would be the only thing that seems to keep your hoses from leaking. A buddy told me it's because the newer cars with lots of aluminum and plastic fittings expand and contract quit a bit and the spring clamps will also expand and contract so they stay snug. Anyway, I didn't have all of the spring clamps, you are supposed to replace them anyway. Anyone who has used screw clamps will tell you most of them are junk. The German ones are the exception, they work great and don't cut up the hoses. They are also impossible to find in the auto-parts store. I found out that the boat supply chain West-Marine carries them as their stock line of clamps.
So just a tip if you are looking for the best screw type clamps, West-Marine has them.

I usually buy all stainless (including the screws) worm clamps and NAPA. Never had any issue with them.
The spring clamps are very old school. I actually have a pair of spring clamp pliers, that belonged to my dad, in my tool box.

Yea, I wish I had a set of the spring clamp pliers. I have the crimp clamp tool. I chose to go with the German clamps on the big hoses and fuel injector clamps on the little ones. What I like about the German clamps is the rolled edges and knurled teeth. There are no slots to bite into the hose and no Sharp edges. They just seem to seal right the first time ;-)
Why would you want to do that? I just fixed my 3rd slow coolant leak due to one of the crappy factory clamps failing.
I went and got the pliers for the spring clamps at sears and use them all the time as I well, just like them and have had good success with mine (spring clamps). I have a few SS clamps under my hood and seems I am always finding them loose.
I like the spring clamps for vehicles with expensive radiators. I never have to worry about tightening the clamp too much and tweaking a $500 radiator. I'm not sure if that's really an issue, but it always scared me on my D1.
Other than that, I hate them.

I'm just amazed how expensive the D1 radiators are, and how cheap the D2 radiators are relatively.
