I have a 2003. You guys have me worried now.

May I ask, which VIN range should I be aware of?

I have a 2003 with 23,000 miles. Truck seems OK.

Does anyone know which VIN range is the "bad ones"?

My VIN # is:
SALTY16493A794171

Should I keep what I have?

2003 Discovery Series II Oil Pump Failures
Vehicles Affected
Discovery Series II (LT) 3A771801 – 3A808362
Situation
Oil pump failures on 2003 Discovery Series II vehicles may be the result of a
manufacturing error. Locating dowel pins may be slightly misaligned permitting
assembly of the oil pump to the engine block, but placing stress on the pump housing
which can ultimately lead to leakage or failure.
Resolution
Whenever an oil pump failure is encountered on vehicles within the above VIN range
the
only effective repair currently available is replacement of the complete engine
assembly including the front cover/oil pump manufactured to the latest tolerances.
Use the following components to affect a repair:
•
LBB112301 4.6 Engine assembly LEV

•
LBB111461 4.6 Engine assembly NON-LEV

Your Disco sounds like a real hottie with that few miles- If I were you, I'd hang on to it and just front a new engine if it happens.

On another note.... Oh, if it weren't for priorities: '04, Chawton White w/ 27k Miles

Still looking as of today.

Hey guys,

Would it be rude to offer a dealer 12k for a vehicle advertised at 16k? What is the cut off/proper amount to offer?

Thanks!

Pat

Riggs- A brand new crate motor for your 03 is going to be around $10,000 installed. You would save some money finding a motor out of a wrecked 04. They are out there but not very plentiful.

Pat - That white one looks nice but at $22K it's way over priced. Even for a 2004 that's too much. $16K sounds a little closer to the right price range but you can offer anything you want. The worst they can say is no. If they really want to sell the vehicle they'll make a counter offer. It's called negotiating. LOL.

Anyone willing to buy my 2003 Discovery? 23,000 miles. brake switch to be remedied. Excellent interior. Silver in color. A few dings on the both sides, not too noticeable.

New EBC rotors and pads installed @ 21,000 miles along with stainless brake steel lines. Located in Brooklyn, NY 11218. I'll aslo throw in 2 sets of HID kits (low beam and fog lights), not installed.

Didn't mean to scare you away from your Rover Riggs. Sounds like there has been a lot if work done to it already, be a shame to get rid of it because of something that may never be a problem.

Now remember Pat that the further you have to go to buy a car the more it will cost you.
If you buy that trk for $12k, plus airfare from Grand Rapids to Colorado, plug gas to get home, food, Pepsi and hotel then you may have paid $16k for one locally.
