I just did head gaskets because of a slipped liner. Ran perfect for a few weeks. Well, was still running perfect but she was building pressure in the coolant system. Apparently my proud sleeve was keeping the water back.
So pay close attention to the head gasket upon removal
You can barely see the difference in the carbon buildup.
Before tear down I filled each cylinder with a about 150 lbs of pressure trying to look for bubbles in the overflow but no dice. Like many sleeve/block issues it wouldn't occur below normal running temps.
What really sucks is I'm now tearing down the best running Rover engine I've ever heard.
