My friend just bought this truck and I had a chance to take a look. Being in Atlanta and only dealing with southern vehicles I've never seen rust like this. How serious is it?

The areas in the first 3 pics I would give some solid pokes with a screw driver to see if it's still got any solid metal especially pic 2

 

What kinda remedy or repairs are we talking?

 

It will continue to rust forever more and get progressively worse until such time as all of the rusty sections are cut out. If the truck has significant value, I would look for a southern truck of the same color and start moving parts over. Believe it or not the entire body will come off one piece at a time, and of course all the mechanicals can be swapped. I frequently buy trucks needing signficant engine work for less than $1000.

 

When you guys buy any vehicle does it not have to pass any inspections when you transfer into your name ??
Here in Canada it has to have a safety check done by a licensed mechanic. That truck would not pass a safety check
it’s going to get a new frame or
tell your bud to use it strictly offroad
or use it for a parts truck

 

Why only offroad? I feel like that would be more stress on the rusted components and make them more likely to fail..?

 

Offroad so it doesnt hurt anyone else or cause an accident.

 

You can buy the rear frame section and weld it on. About $700-$800.
