Default How do I open the hood from outside the cab?

Long story short I have a mystery power draw somewhere killing the truck overnight. With the truck locked, and the design of the truck, that means I’m locked out.

which means I can’t pop the hood easily to jump the truck and unlock it.

is there a way to easily pop the hood from outside the cab?

Slide underneath and hook battery charger or jumper cables to starter positive post. Just pull starter cover/head shield back out of the way.

ah that will be better! This will power the car to unlock it?

EDIT: after googling, I can’t find out what the starter looks like, how to find it, let alone the positive post. Any help in that regard?

Why not put the key in the door lock and unlock the truck?

I was hoping I wasn’t the only one wondering this.

the answer is in my original post - the design of the truck is such that the key in the handle also requires power to operate.

The srarter is on the pasenger side of engine, near bell housing, behind exhaust manifold, pull heat shield back (aluminum cover), clips on partially, and attach battery charger to positive post and negative to a good ground.

Door locks are electric, need voltage...even when using key in drivers door.

That is not correct. The key in a properly functioning door lock will unlock the driver door regardless of whether or not the battery is charged. Try it.

hmm, the last time I tried this when I got locked out, I broke the rod in the door. I just got the door lock replaced. I’ve also seen in the forum here others say the key triggers an electronic mechanism to unlock.

So which is it?

when I first tried it, it felt so locked in place that turning was going to break it again. If I’m unable to figure out the starter, I’ll try it again gently.
