How do you use the gear box?

well, i guess i'll try to answer this because a bunch of people have looked at it and haven't answered. you should have instructions right in front of your transfer lever, and in your manual. maybe you are missing these. i'm no expert but i do know the basics.
first of all, you are already in 4 wheel drive. your discovery is always in 4 wheel drive.
if you are in slippery conditions, go ahead stop and put your truck in N (you can be going 5 mph or less but i wouldn't try it your first time) and push your transfer lever (the one on your console that is not your transmission (gearbox) lever, up and to the right for 4 wheel drive low. you should be good to go in most conditions in 4 low.
for some of the more extreme offroading conditions (not all) you may need to lock the differential. (this locks your front and rear axles together) search for threads about it and understand it before you decide to use it. a locking differential can be pretty hard to understand.
hope this helps.

yes your tranfer case has two functions left&right locked/unlocked, and up&down low&high. the hyrogliphics on the consol are just what he said; put the truck in neutral keep your speed under 5mph(i've found if the speedo needle is still on the peg and you're rolling it will slip right in) shift it up or down, put the truck in drive and your good. to go side to side(locked and unlocked) you dont need to the whole neutral deal, in fact the manual says you can do it at any speed as long as all your wheels arent spinning at different speeds. i wouldn't recomend 4wheelin at 70mph though. you can go around the pattern any direction you want just as long as when switching from from high to low or low to high you follow the neutal deal. i hope this helps i had to ask to figure it out too, even after rovering with my father in law, who i think still has no clue. he still tries to do it at a stand still and it can be nearly impossible to get it to slip in.
