How many times should the fan clutch spin before it comes off?

Default How many times should the fan clutch spin before it comes off?

Replacing the fan clutch and water pump today.

The fan was previously seized up.

I knocked the nut loose with a 36mm wrench, and the fan is moving again.

Question is, how many times does this thing spin before coming off?

Seems like if turned it to the left at least 100 times, and no give.

Obviously I meant "knocked the nut to the left"

I think I've identified the problem. When I "loosened" the nut, it did not break free from the pulley, and that is moving too.

Would I be safe spraying some PB Blaster down there to let is soak a bit, or would WD40 be safer?

Try loosing the fan with the serpentine belt in place

How would I do that?

The serp belt is on. Not exactly sure what you mean by "in place".

In the video you said that you hit the nut to the right? When you are standind in front of your truck looking at your engine you need to be turning the nut to the left towards the passenger side.
Spray the nut with some liquid wrench or WD-40 and let it sit for an hour or so then spray it again. Now with the wrench on the nut facing straight up toward the hood take a hammer and knock it to the left. It should break loose after a few good taps.

Thanks man. I meant to say that I hit it to the left in the video... I sprayed some WD 40 twice 30 minutes ago.. and some PB Blaster about 10 minutes ago. I'll see if it loosens up any in a few.

As for your original question, hen ready to spin off, it is rather long winded and will take a lot of turns before coming off.
You might also consider replacing the coolant cap as well as the t/stat at the same time and use a 180 degree soft spring t/stat for better cooling.

Thanks Mike,

I have a 180 degree t-sat that should be here next Thur, and I'm ordering the cap now. Never would have thought cap would run $25..

While we're on the topic of changing the viscous clutch and water pump. Does anyone here ever scrap those used metal parts? If so, what do they normally fetch?
