how much life is left?
My 2002 Discovery has 146,330 miles on her. She seems to be running fine. I was just wondering how many miles one usually gets out of a Discovery. What's the average, and what's the most anyone's ever heard?
Take REEEEEALLY good care of it and you will be surprised. I have a friend with a classic Range rover that pulled 300,000 recently and it still going strong. So you will just have to find out if your truck has a long life span or not, if you have been keeping it up then you will be rolling for a good while!
Is it paid for? Take care of it and drive it. If you get 300k great, if not...well its paid for, right?
These trucks will last forever. And if the engine does let go replace it and then keep going. A new engine is alot cheaper than a new car.

I read somewhere that about 75% of all Land Rovers ever made are still in use somewhere in the world. That being said, even with some mechanical issues, they have a long life if taken care of.
But that could be said for many vehicles, if well maintained. I just sold my 1989 Chevy Suburban with 321,000 miles on it and my previous car was a 1986 Isuzu Trooper TD with 265,000 on it.
The key is good maintenance, regular oil and filter changes and a little TLC.

I've seen many of those 75% in Africa...you'd be amazed at what a little ingenuity (sp?) can do.
We can get parts...but in the bush...anything goes. And you know what car you see in the bush the most (at least where I have been)...good ol' Land Rover.
I have a great photo of a range rover that someone in Nairobi was driving that had four rear tyres...two axles...not sure how that monstrosity came about...but I have a photo to prove it!

Just some interesting stuff from Top Gear. Gives you a good idea and a little bit of history.
