How regular should I do maintenance checks?
I am purchasing a 2000 Disco Series II, I believe SD7, how often should I be checking fluids and other things of that nature? Just to make sure it keeps running as smooth as possible.
while gettingfamiliar with the vechile, check for obvious leaks daily, and check fluids weekly to monitor and get an idea how much fluid you're loosing (if any). If you're coolant is green, drain it and refill with dexcool. Change the oil, and air filter, and let us know your mileage so we can let u know what to watch out for. If it's never had, it's probably time for plugs and wires. If it has high mileage, check the plugs for signs of moisture (failing head gasket). Don't mean to scare u, you'll love your truck. You'll also come to realize that any truck worth driving, is one worth working on.
Do you have a complete service record to know what the previous owner did or didn't do already? If not you need to check everything on every service interval prior to when you got it. I ended up having to do the 60K mi service at 60K KM because coolant was getting acidic and I had to replace a battery, serpentine belt (not really bad but cheap and easy) and plug wires (cracked caps), so you never know what it'll need. Knowing how it's been used and what has been done and when is critical.
Will you be doing the service on this truck or will a shop?
Oil changes are every 3000 miles, intermediate services and inspection every 15,000 miles with major services every 30,000 miles.
Do you have your owners manual, most of this is spelled out in there in more detail.
