Does anyone know if I have to take the bumper off to remove the winch? It is an '03 if that helps.

Yes. And it will be heavy with the winch in it. Get a floor jack and a friend to help.

 

I have always found an engine hoist to work well. Using webbing to hang it so you don't have to balance it on the floor jack...

 

Remove the top bolts, loosen the bottom ones, lower the bumper with the jack, remove winch, lift bumper back up, bolt back into place.
It will pivot on the lower bolts but not come off completely.

 

Are you going to be selling your winch, if so how much are you asking for it?

Disco Mike - I had a brief moment of thinking of selling the Disco and getting a Jeep unlimited, which I'd use the winch for. That moment has passed, and am in the process of fixing my oil pressure issue.
