Default HSE = What it's all about

Hey Ladies and Gents,

Could anyone please tell me the basics of what separates an HSE from an SE?

I assume "HSE" is supposed to be better, right?

I know it has the Navigation System- is it worth a darn? Are the cheapest GPS systems nowdays better?

Does it have ACE? Do any '04s have ACE?

THANKS guys...

Pat

About the the only thing that I know about the HSE is that it is loaded to the gills.
And the SAT/NAV needs to be updated every once and awhile...$300 per update.
Is it any good? I do not know. Would it be cool to have? Yes.
Where is this truck at?

Like Spike said, the HSE is the top of the line. If there is an option out there, more than likely the HSE has it standard. Since you're going to be paying a pretty penny for a 2004 you might as well get all the bells and whistles. I'm about 95% certain that the 04s, especially a HSE, have ACE.

I believe the HSE's have dual (at least front) sunroof, leather interior instead of the duragrain, and some wood paneling(?). I have a SD, but the PO added the front sunroof, 6 disc cd changer (now an iPod interface) and a few other things that I can't think of right now.

My '03 SE has leather seats with the front individual armrests as well as the dual sunroof, cd changer, and premium 12 speaker audio system. I have heard that the '03/'04 factory navigation sucks *****. From the ones that I looked at before I bought mine, it was actually smaller than the normal D2 factory stereo, and the interface looked very hard to deal with. Like Spike said, you have to update and you have to pay for it. I would skip it and invest in a good quality aftermarket navi instead.

Thanks for the information, guys.

Yeah Spike, I found a beauty of an '04 Disco. It's exactly what I want- White, Cold weather package, beige interior, and only 33k miles.

BUT- It's an HSE instead of an SE. I really don't want to deal with the ACE stuff.

I put a pretty big deposit on the vehicle to have it taken off the market for a week so I can get out there to look at it, but I've got a couple dozen more pictures being taken on Tuesday that I'll have emailed to me. I am praying it doesn't have ACE.. but I'm sure it does. The vehicle isn't cheap, but it's a one owner, and it sounds like it's flawless.

I'm almost hoping there's a flaw... I don't want to get something with ACE, but I am not going to pass up a white '04 with 33k miles for this price.

We'll see...

The ACE system is probably one of the most reliableon the truck, and its a far better vehicle with it than without both on and offroad. Don't let that put you off AT ALL.

The factory Nav system works very well for me, and ALL nav systems go out of date, has something to do with man building more roads, but generally even a 3-4 year old disc still works fine. Yes the system does not have a pretty colour screen for you to look at, but a good system should not need it as its the voice commands that guide you best.

if you have to look at the screen, then you might as well buy a bloody map !!

All the "needed" info appears on the Navi screen, would not be without mine

Like Panzer said ACE is a good thing, you are thinking of SLS Pat.
Self Leveling Suspension. Or air ride.
My TomTom is 2 years out of date, I cannot up grade without buying a larger memory card and I just have not done that yet.
It just does not have the new expressway, or new sub divisions, its pretty funny when Mr. T (thats the voice I use) thinks that I am driving across a river.
But TomTom updates are free, and I have a nice pretty color screen. And remember Pat that you cantake him withyou whenyou travel, you cant do that with your SAT/NAV in your truck.
When I went to LA last year I put TomTom in my rental car and got to sight see without being lost.

Explain, your negative attitude about ACE, I find this quite interesting.
