Default Hub still leaking!! Help please

OK. I replaced the hub this morning with a used one I bought on ebay for $60. The hub nut turned out to be NOT a 36mm. I used a standard size socket that was big enough and dont remember the size.

Anyway, after I got to work I noticed the new "used" hub is leaking too!!! Spending the $60 on a used hub was worth the try.

My question is, ..... how do I know that if I buy a BRAND NEW one that it wont leak either?? What else can leak around wheel hubs? Its not leaking between the axle and the hub, its clearly coming from the hub its self. I hope, hope, hope, pray, pray, pray, that this one I bought is bad, and that all I need to do is get another one that is in good working condition.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Got off the phone with Roversnorth and "Steve" explained to me that the hub doesnt leak but that the "O" ring is what keeps axle fluid from leaking through and around the hub. MY problem is that the O ring HAS been replaced with the hub! So if thats the case.... how do hubs go bad if they are sealed and dont leak? Or did I not understand something...

I will get another O ring and try some RTV....

on top of replacing the oring and the seal new or used if you try again, remember to blow out the vent line, if for soem reason you have too much heat building up and the vent is clogged it will find its next least resistive path to rid the pressure.

Try RoverLandParts. They have D2 hub's (w/ ABS sensor) for $195 and a 90 day guarantee.

My rear diff leaked when I bought my truck, leaked out the front seal.
Replaced the axle breather and no more leaks.

If you have a nick on the axle where the hub seal sits you can have a leak.
When the hub goes bad it wont leak, it will "wobble". I think the bearings inside the sealed hub are packed with grease and when it wears out it just has to much play.
One of the things that sets off the "3 amigos" is a bad hub.

I cleared the breather tube, (it wasn't clogged), installed a new O ring, RTV'd the O ring and where ever else the hub mates with the axle. I removed the filler plug on the diff and oil poured out for a good few minutes so maybe the previous owner might have over filled it.

EGH!!!! I drove to work and have not noticed a leak yet. it is parked on a slight hill facing down and leaning right so the rear right hub has most of the axle oil on its side. ...its 1043hrs est time so around lunch time i will head out for an inspection.

STILL LEAKING....

I am gonna take my dremel and smooth out this nick and fill it in with JB weld and retry. I tried RTV on the nick before and no success. If this does not work I'll buy a hub from roverlandparts. At least that way i know the hub will be in good working order.

Will update after the dremel attempt this weekend.
