Default Humming noise from LH side of dash?

I have noticed a humming noise coming from the driver's side dash just to the lower left of the steering wheel since I bought my DII. It never really bothered me too much & I guess I always assumed it was normal. When I finished up the head gasket job on my partners DII, I drove it for a couple days & noticed hers doesn't make the noise. Probably something I should look into.

It sounds like fan, but one that is damaged or off balance. If I push in the general area on the outside of the dash, I can change the tone of the noise, but it never goes away.

It starts as soon as you turn the key on & will hum if the motor is running or not. Changing the HVAC controls does not seem to affect it & it hums even with the controls off. Anyone recognize the part from the pics? If so, can it be repaired rather than replaced? Is it something that I need or can I just unhook it?

I would start by taking it out and seeing if it is dirty, spins off balance, or is rubbing part of the wires first.

I replaced mine a year or 2 ago because it was buzzing, cleaning it did not help much. I found somebody parting out their disco and had them send me theirs. It's some sort of small computer type fan that draws air though the vent in the dash to cool something, not sure or can't remember exactly what though.

When they get noisy it is time to replace them.

Mine does this too, though I would describe it more as a "whir", which is in keeping with a fan as the noise source; lower left side of the binnacle.

It is a cooling fan to keep the electronics cool.
Just like on your computer at home.

I just started getting the same hum/buzz/whirring from my dash. Only hums when the engine is running - not when merely the electricals are active.

Does anyone know the part number, name, or a source for purchasing a new fan?

Isn't that fan part of the climate control system? I think that fan sucks in air and measures the temp so it can report with control panel when the system is set to auto.
