the truck drives in D only, you can not up shift or down shift. The M&S lights are flashing as well as the "D" is flashing.

90% of the time I think this is usaully an Alt, but i'm putting out over 13.5 volts & i just had my charger hooked to it for sh*ts & giggles and it was putting out about 14.5 and the lights were still flashing.

I was going to try a post under M&S&D flashing and see what came back.

Damn, this is quite the pickle. Check your battery terminals. I've had my truck go into limp mode twice, once it was the battery, the other time it ended up being that the battery terminals were too loose and wasn't getting a good connection. Also check the frame ground.

You might also try sacrificing one of your Jeeps to the Rover Gods??

I'll give it a try the ground that is not the gods, those are some of the last real jeeps.
Dana 44 r, Dana 30 f, Dana 300 trans, turbo 400 all behind a 6 cylinder, from the factory.

Its normal for the m&d&s to all blink thats a standard limp mode. The d light on the shifter should be blinking as well. Im wondering if u accidentally clipped or disconnected something when puttin the cdl in...I'm trying to think what else is around there. There is a wire cluster the starter wire comes out of, it continues on to the transmission. What about the shift cable, did you release it from the console when going in? The adjustment of that cable if off the slightest bit will throw the truck into limp

I never got the cdl in before it got dark, i got the inspection plate off and the shifter loose then i just put two screw in the hold the plate, hoping to use it today.

I pulled the harness apart looking to see if i could have hit a wire drilling out the pop rivets. I visually inspected every wire i could have gone near, i even wiggled them while watching the light to see if the would stop.

With my luck it probably is the Alt. and just a coincidence.

someone suggested a cps, but I dont know about that one.

Definitely not crank position sensor. I have seen situation when alternators will fail under load but at idle, work perfectly fine. Rare occasion but it does happen. Im assuming you checked all the wires and connectors you came close to in addition to checking the shift linkage. I don't have or haven't installed a cdl but from what I have read, a lot can be disturbed down there. Might also be the time to recheck under and around every pop rivet you drilled out. From your description, sounds likeyou hit something

You also said you got the shifter loose? Double and triple check the linkage.

I only loosened the transfer case shifter from the access panel, the transmission shifter is still bolt up to the access panel that one I never touched. There is no need to remove it you have enough slack in the cable to push the panel and shifter assenly to the side.

i agree you don't need to remove it, but some people do just to get it out of the way.

just one thing before we continue troubleshooting.. you did connect both the electrical connection you spliced in as well as the interlock solenoid which is the small black connector on the other side of the handle.

does the truck read P when in park?

ok.. on to more trouble shooting. i need you to check fuse 11 and fuse 12. also the ground on the TCU which is located under the driver seat. then get under the truck and on the driver side of the transmission make sure that the wxyz (shift selector switch) is plugged in. it sits in a harness above the switch.

hilltop,

"just one thing before we continue troubleshooting.. you did connect both the electrical connection you spliced in as well as the interlock solenoid which is the small black connector on the other side of the handle."
Yes, this is what locks the shifter from moving, small plug passenger side of the shifter, yes it is connected.

the dash reads P, R, N, D and it will run thru all these gears.

I will check the fuses you suggested 11 & 12 in a few hours when i get home, am i looking for 11 & 12 under the hood or under the dash?

I will check the ground under the seat, probably just add a new one to be sure.

I will also check the plug on the XYZ switch,

I went threw every post for blinking M&S they all point at battery/alt. with the very odd one suggesting the XYZ switch, but no one every said if the xyz switch solved there problem or not.

It would be so nice if people would close out posts, i bet I read over 50 posts for blinking lights that were never closed out with a solution.

I mean this isnt my first rodeo, it not like i used a 1/2 horse drill with a 3/4 inch bit.
I took care drilling the rivets only shearing the tops off, and it only slipped on one rivet head and i have checked every wire in the harness 12 inches each way for any signs of contact just in case.

I found a used alt. I was going to throw on for sh*ts & giggles to see if it is a battery /alt problem that just happen to pop up at the same time i was doing the cdl.

If you can bear with me a few hour I can get you the answer you are looking for,
thanks for the follow up.
