Default I was going to "trade up" from a '99 to a '03 until I read a previous post...

I was mere seconds away from purchasing a '03 Disco II to replace my current '99. Glad the deal fell through after reading another post here about the issues with '03-04 Discos.

I have a '99 that got beat a few years back by a freak hailstorm and now sports more dimples than a golf ball. I had decided it was time to look for a new Disco as mine is starting to need more and more attention and repair.

I don't have an aversion to the "uniqueness" of a LR, but it's starting to wear on me. Just today the driver's side window quit. Something is binding inside.

My question to all of you that have way more knowledge than me is this...

Are body/interior parts from a '02 Disco II swappable with my '99? I found an '02 with a blown motor, but good body that I could use to cannibalize parts from.

Thanks!

Yes, as long as you have a D2 '99.
Golf ball dimples give you better gas mileage - as proven on Mythbusters.

lol Bundu!

Yeah, your 99 has the CDL also, you just need the linkage. That 03 does not have it at all.

So to use the CDL in your 99 you only need to purchase and install this,

http://lucky8llc.com/Products.asp?ProductID=2185

Video how to do it, super easy,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H92ea_clC6U

Versus that 03 you would need a whole new transfer case, etc. Which aint even worth it because now your talking way too much money to 4x4...

I would fix up the 99. You already know it inside and out, you know what's wrong with it and what's good with it. Get a 2" lift, get ya some larger off road tires. Maybe a brush guard, or maybe a custom bumper with winch plate. Then you can really have some fun. And if you can find a doner for cheap, jump all over that. There is nothing easlier than a rebuild with the doner sitting right next to it. Measuring, drilling, etc.

LOLZ all you need to do is spend $428 on a kit... just get yourself a used D1 linkage if you want CDL. Keep your 99' use the 02 as a donor for sure! forget body panels... just bang out the dents and rattle can the whole truck black. then you can fix scratches with a 99cent cant of wal mart paint.

That's actually not bad Bundu.

So $600 give or take + the linkage from an D1 if you were trying to convert an 02-03 to CDL. That's good to know. I had read it would be more $.

Don't give up on the 99. You just need some motivation/reset button man.

I am hoping to have one sitting in my driveway in 2 days. Solid axles on these bad boys stock, one of the reasons I am here hehe....oh yeah.....

My mod list will hopefully include:

2-4 inch lift (more than likely Old Man Emu 2")
32-34 inch mud terrains (32" BFGs....)
ARB air locker in the front (most $ mod, but I already have a brand new Viair compressor left over from my jeep YJ build)
On board air (gotta find a place to mount a 2.5 gallon tank)
Detroit locker in the back (this is a must)
rear bumper w/d hooks
rock sliders (this is a must these doors are paper)
ARB winch bumper (or custom) with a winch

Lucky 8 site says "most" D2's have CDL stock. Maybe a dumb question, but how do I tell if I do or don't?

Mine's a '99 D2 with ACES.

PS. I knew you guys would convince me to keep the '99...

'99 has it, 2000 and some 2001 as well, 2002 & 2003 do not, 2004 has it.
You can feel the CDL nipple on top of the transfer case to the driver's side of the front drive shaft flange.
