Hello again folks. I started tearing my engine down today to inspect/replace the head gaskets after an overheat episode this past week. When I got the valley pan out I noticed that one of the camshaft journals has fallen out of the block and has been rubbing against one of the lifters for a while. Not to mention riding around on the cam all this time. Infact, the lifter had eaten about halfway through one part of it. It appears that it's just stayed in one position and rubbed on the same spot the entire time but, I'll know more later on tomorrow when I get a better look at it. Amazingly, the lifter has absolutely NO marks on it at all, I pulled it out and looked over the entire surface and there isn't even a scratch on it. So I'm guessing that plain bearing is made of a much softer metal (makes sense I guess) I'll post some pics. soon if anyone is interested in seeing them. It makes me wonder how many of these Rover ticks are the same thing as mine. ???

I took the piece of crap metal out of the engine yesterday. It wasn't worth trying to jam it back into place as the surface that makes contact with the cam has been smashed to hell from running against the cam and lifter for so long. Charging my camera now, I'll try to post a picture of it tonight if I remember.
