Default I need help

I just received the death sentence for my Disco. The head gasket is blown and I don’t have the time or the money to do it myself or get someone else to do it. I love the car and really don’t want to lose this community. What should I do?
1) save up money to have it fixed by a shop for ~2k
2) save up and get the LS swap for ~4k
3) be smart and get a Camry for 3k

4)save up and do it yourself for under $1k easily probably half that.

LS swap will cost more than $4k and if you have someone do it expect at least triple that cost.

Well when you own a discovery you should already have thought of buying a second backup that’s what I did when I was 18 when I got mine. The ls swap will certainly go over 4k I wanted to do it and priced it above 4K and I’d do it myself. Above comment is right, with these trucks it’s nice to do the work yourself it will allow you to really get to know around it aslong as you have the tools and place to do it.

I agree:

4. Save up, buy tools and a manual, and do it yourself. In the meanwhile, ride your bike or walk while saving up. Also, notify your insurance company that your car isn't roadworthy and you want to suspend your insurance. That will save some money, especially for a male under the age of 25, since rates are highest for your age group.

Good luck,
Scott

I’ll add also never be scared to mess with anything. I bought mine when I was 18 and the most I’ve ever done before buying it was change oil and add air to tires. When something broke I just sucked it up and took a wack at it now I know this truck inside out and I’d be confident doing my own head gasket or swapping the engine etc with zero training. All I have is stuff I learned from this forum when you can figure out how to really find exactly what you need it’s a very powerful tool

search write ups see if they show specific sizes. The money you save from not paying a shop, you can use to purchase tools that you can keep forever that’s one big upside to doing it

Ok it is just intimidating. I don’t want to spend all of this time on it and then just lose interest on it or strip a bolt an ruin the whole engine.
