Ok, maybe a dumb question....I am going through my rig and getting it all cleaned up. It idles a little rough but not bad. Will cleaning the IACV help?...also, I dont want to clean it with the wrong thing. What should I clean it with and how.

Clean it with carb cleaner, take it out, clean it, clean the port it goes into, reinstall it.
And remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question.
Have you cleaned the throttle body yet?

 

Not yet, that is on the list with this one....just carb cleaner for that too right?...

 

I have heard people on here say to clean the throttle body with the engine not running?...I have always done it the other way. Any thoughts on that?

 

Clean the t/body with the engine off, that is how all vehicles are supposed to be done. Also clean the idle solenoid.
When was it last tuned, how about wires, what octane gas and have you checked for a broken motor mount on the drivers side?

 

Running premium gas. Not sure when it was last tuned. The plug wires look good and they are clean but I am betting they are old. They are grey if that helps identify them. I am going to do the tune up right now too..By the way, it looks like a real pain to change those wires. looks like a guy needs tiny hands to get back there

 

Hey Mike, I am looking in the manual for the Idle solenoid and it isnt coming up....is it called something else maybe?...where is it exactly?

Look at the Bosch engine, thats what you have, see the half circle hose that goes from the ain intake to the throttlebody?
See that funny looking metal thing? That is your IACV.

You cannot clean a throttle body with the air intake removed, the engien wont run and it will set of the check engine light.
With a carburated car you cleaned the carb with the engine running.

 

Wow. You are right spike. I was totally thinking carb. Can you tell it's been awhile so de I turned a wrench. This is the first one I have had that hasn't had a full warranty with it. So is the IACV the same as the idle solenoid?

 

The idle control valve and stepper motor are the same thing on a DI, I would have to make a educated guess and say that yes, the idle solinod is the same thing.
