Idle Issues
I sure hope I can get some ideas to help fix my 97 Discovery (gas) so here goes. The car is having a problem idling. I drove it today with no issues for about 30 minutes and then parked it. My wife then drove it down the road with no issues. About an hour later my son tried to start the car it it will not stay running. If you give it gas it revs finebut will not idle. This happened last week and my son drove to school came home, drove to his girlfriends and when he came home the car quit and it would not idle. Anybody have any suggestions? I would like to be able to keep it running for another six months so any suggestions would be appriciated.

RE: Idle Issues
This is a easy one, you need a new stepper motor, also known as the idle air control.

Replace it an you will be good to go.

RE: Idle Issues
If i ever meet you I owe you a beer. The whole is carboned up and when I look into the throttle body it is very dirty. Can I clean it with carb cleaner? Anything I should not do? I have cleaned up to the butterfly valve but was wondering if I need to spray something in further to clean. I'm trying not to do anymore damage. Thanks again, Greg
