Default ignition upgrades? 98 disco1 4.0L

Distributorless ignition upgrade? does anyone know if there is anything I can do short of installing a distributor to get a multiple spark digital ignition into my disco1? like an MSD? or any other suggestions to better my ignition? Already running top of the line plugs and wires....

To install a distributor in your truck will require you to completely replace the engine. What top of the line wires and plugs are you using? If you aren't using Magnecor wires you'll be replacing them shortly.

No there isn't and you already have a mulitple fire coil pack on your engine. This is not a performance engine, there are only a few things worth doing, that don't cost a fortune.
Bottom line, the tranny and diff's won't handle too much extra horsepower so live with what you have, besides you won't benefit off road when wheeling, it is the torque you need.

Thanks Mike and AK,
Mike- do you have any links with info to my ignition? i had no idea i already had a multi-spark ign....
I am not looking for more horsepower just smoother, and better fuel economy. MSD did wonders for my old chevy1500 especially when "in town" driving.
>im suffering from rich burn condition and thought better spark would clean that up...?
O2's checked Okay.
MAF-freshly cleaned.
No vac leaks.
No codes.
No knocks.
Just sounds like a small diesel at idle and hogs fuel.

AK- running new MSD super conductor wires, and new bosch plat-4's <Ive had good luck with P-4's so far......5yrs one fouled.
thanks guys!

Are you running premium gas?
If you are using that much fuel then you have a problem, clogged air filter, bad O2's for example.
The Rover V8 sparks on ever up stroke of the piston.
So even on the exhaust stroke the spark plugs spark.
If I read right your spark plugs are 5 years old...thats your problem.
You need a tune up.

nope...new P-4's
new plugs and wires last month,
also i only use Sonoco premium fuel, air and fuel filters are new too.
i only get about 300-350kms to a tank (80L).
i know a couple of other rovers locally and they get WAY better mileage than me ....450-550kms same driving patterns.
i just bought this Disco 5 months ago...few things to work, out im having trouble with this economy thing the most....

Yeah your MPG is bad.
Might want to do a induction cleaning to help clean up the valves and piston tops.

How many miles (km) do you have on your O2's? with a 98, they start to go around 80K miles. Even if they check out good, they still will make you run rich. Do an induction cleaning like Spike suggested and get back with your mileage. Might put you year an mileage in your sig... makes it easier for us to help.

I'm betting your wires are the a large part of the problem. Magnecor or factory LR wires are the only ones that survive the heat radiated from the aluminum engine. I also think that performing the induction cleaning will help your engine.

I am running +4s in my 97 and I love them. My idle is nice and smooth and the mileage is mid-teens in the city, 17-18 on the highway.

Sounds good! I will do the induction cleaning wires and O2's and get back here in a couple of tanks.
thank you so much for your help every one!
