Default I'm Doing my Transmission and Power Steering today

I've got a pretty good handle on how im going to do the transmission flush, but to do the power steering i need to have someone walk me through it. I'm going out soon to Harbor Freight to get a pump for the transmission Fluid and a Turkey Baster thing for the PS fluid.

Also, anyone know if Royal Purple makes Transmission Fluid? If they Do I'd like to get some and use it.

Just suck out the PAS fluid and replace it with fresh stuff. If it is really dirty drive for a week then do it again. If you want a synthetic PAS fluid you will probably have to order it. The regular stuff at autozone and Walmart will work fine though.

Suck out the p/s fluid, replace it, start and turn the wheel full left and full right 2 times, turn it of and do it at least 2 to 3 more time, till the fluid you suck out is clear. This will take around 5 quarts of p/s fluid.
I would not suggest you go to a full synthetic tranny fluid with a tranny your age, it could cause more harm then good by cleaning it out too fast and causing it to start slipping. Also to do a full fluid change over, you have to have a flush machine that will cost you at least $100 to have done plus $150 or so in new fluid.

OH MY GOD!!!! what fun I am having... somehow i managed to knock the cap to the PAS reservoir off and down underneath the air filter box, spent an hour trying to get it out.
working on the transmission and its going well, started by adding a bottle of lucas transmission fluid conditioner, then refilling the rest of the way with pro line ATF.
i bought 6 quarts and have put in about 3 and have already had a lot flow back out of the check/fill hole.... just gotta start it and run it through the gears then check it again...
while i was out to get fluids i also got a can of seafoam and a can of throttle body cleaner, i figured, why not do an induction cleaning since im working on the truck today!

I do a power sterring flush once a month...........or until I can get a new steering gear box as mine is leaking quite a bit. I was going to replace the seals, but I could not get the Pitman arm off. I used an air impact and bent the puller.

They are a PITA! Put the puller on the arm, soak with PB blaster, torque a bit, soak again, heat the arm, soak again. Just keep doing that until it pops off. I've broken about 10 pullers in the course of wrenching professionally, it's just how it goes.

Easy way to get all your tranny fluid out is drain and replace it add an extra quart of trans fluid. Then pull one of the tranny cooling lines off at the radiator/cooler and put a hose on it ...and also on the part coming out of the radiator/cooler (in case you don't know which side it will come out). Put both hoses into a 4 or 5 gal bucket. Now, hold the hoses securely and have a helper start the vehicle and watch the fluid going into the bucket and have them shut it off when it turns clear. If it takes a while, you might want to shut the vehicle off and add a couple quarts in between. The whole process only takes 15-20 seconds ...you'd be suprised how much fluid comes out.

After that, top off the trans fluid. What happens is the pump draws new fluid into it and pumps what's in the torque converter back to the tranny. You might want to use high-mile tranny fluid as it will have anti-shudder agents for high-mile trannys.

I do the above sequence when I change tranny fluid on all my vehicles for years. I haven't changed tranny fluid in my Disco yet, but I just bought the stuff.
