I am going to try Instinct's kit. My D2 V8 is currently getting to 216F under load with ambient at 88F, AC off, forced AC fan on, new Allisport rad, 82C thermostat, new viscous, water pump OK. Heads redone a while back. Want to try the inline mod now to see what happens. My 'running hot' is easy to replicate - I have a few test hills. Shall be interesting to see what difference it makes

Just drove one of my d2s from Denver, CO to VA and back, temps never rose above 183 even on long climbs at highway speed.

My 216F is climbing one on my test hills. Its a long climb of around 5 minutes with probably 1500 ft elevation gain. Low speed in 1st/2nd auto box gear high range with plenty of tight turns. Even though I know its working its not as if I am towing anything. Highway cruising with AC on is fine. Its only under above normnal loads. Its really got me stumped. Its not a stock vehicle - large lift, 35s, etc.

Neither of mine are stock and even at elevation and the mountain passes in CO I don't have issues anymore.

And you have the inline thermostat fitted to both?

my 03 runs fine with a 170 degree. no codes. although I do plan to run a 180 after this winter. Normal operating temp is 173-176 on the interstate. 179-183 around town. 188 max for about 30 seconds at redlights. ambient temp 35-45 ( haven't had in in the summer yet). Just wanted to share my experience. 180 has the most documentation, so it's probably best to just stick with that. It does have a 2000 P38 block in it. not sure if that affects anything as I'm not sure if the PO also changed out the ECU.

Yes I have inline mod in both of mine. My white one even with a gnarly externally blown hg runs super cool currently lol

So why am I getting the p0176 code, insufficient coolant temp now that I have the inline mod with a 180 degree stat?
All was fine until winter hit. My temps during late summer and fall were in the 170-1 range. Now with winter, they didn’t drop too. UCB but I get the damn code? Do I just need a new sensor perhaps?

Do you have an 03-04? I believe they are more sensitive to the cooler temps. Might have to run a 190 or 185 (is that a thing?) during the winter if the code bothers you

Yes I have a 04. I thought to change the stat, but before I do I tried blocking some of the radiator with cardboard to see what happens, and still got the code.
