Default Instrument cluster

Hey has anyone tried to modify and replace your old instrument cluster with a newer digital one?

The odometer has to sync with both the BCU and the ECU. Seems unlikely that an aftermarket module is going to be able to do that.

I really doubt that new technology cluster will work on our old Dos 7.0 cluster. lol

All it needs is the right signal to the right sensors and the factory odometer left functioning.
Do I know how to set it up? No...but it's definately doable.

I'll stick with my old analog gauge cluster. I know a lot of people with newer much more $$$$$$ vehicles that have had the entire LCD crap out leaving them without a dash period or in some cases the vehicle is INOP completely due to the failure.

I am sporting an 04 D2 Gauge Cluster in my 02 Kalahari though. I just found a lower mileage unit vs what the Kalahari had on it, and then used my Nanocom to sync the BCU and cluster together. I've done it on two of my D2's I've owned, but some 03 clusters won't play nice and the temp/fuel gauges report the opposite readings.. I've had good results with the 04 units. You can also go with the 99 cluster or the 00-02 Cluster into an 03-04 if you'd like.

How can you tell if an ECU, BCU and cluster are from an 04?

Cluster has different gauge face which makes it stand out instantly, BCU should have a date code on it usually, but a D2 BCU is a D2 BCU (programming can be different for different markets/options), ECU's are the same minus programming for SAI/Non SAI or 4.0L/4.6L/Diesel (in the UK).
