intake manifold sucking air?
well,as you may have seen we're pulling engine out of my oldest son's '93 RR and had some challenges over the turkey day holidays. Then my 2nd son's girlfriend was just about to leave('97 DISCO1) and go back to college when i heard an exhust leak. went under and tightened it up and it was gone BUT then i heard what i thought was a vacume leak . after looking closely it appears there is a intake manifold leak between passenger side head and the manifold(note: it appeard that someone had taken off one of the injector leads in same area),in the very center. i sprayed a little WD40 in that area and heard a change of noise NOW what would cause this type of problem and are there any precautions i need to know about the 4.0 verses the '93RR 3.9 in removing and replaceing intake.we intend on starting today 01/01/2009 reply asap

RE: intake manifold sucking air?
No, I wasn't talking about the valley pan gasket but one refered to as the intake manifold gasket. It is a rectangular gasket between the upper and lower manifold that seels the 8 intake tubes. If you were to see it you would see the rect5angular shape with 8 apx. 1" holes.
When they get old, they can dry rot or they can also suck up oil and burn it through the cylinders.

well i took that manifold off and found that on the center intake area ,right at the port on the head ,pass side, some how the right top corner had folded inward toward the port allowing a intake vacume leak. so we ordered valley pan set. should be easy fix
