Smile Intake & valve cover job

I got a bad coolant leak, pours down coolant when engine is hot. I took it to a mechanic recently and he said its probably the Intake manifold gasket I need to replace. He didn't seem 100% sure and the job would cost me 600 bucks+.

Since he is going to work on the car, I thought it would prob be better if I could buy the kits for Intake Manifold gaskets and valve cover gasket, since he is already going to be opening up everything inside the engine.

My questions to you guys are:
1: Is the valley pan gasket, the same as intake manifold? if not where can I get them both. I want the mechanic to replace a lot of things while he is under the hood.
2: I am getting the valve covers replaced, is there anything else I should get replaced with it?
3: Going to upgrade magnacore 8mm wires and spark plugs while he is down there.
4: Oil change

Let me know what else I need replacing, and good places for the intake manifold kit, I searched and didn't find any.

First, yes it may be the valley pan leaking, quite often when it is, the 6 bolts have loosened and just need to be tightened. As for the v/c gaskets, quite often they just need to be tightened cause they tend to vibrate loose.
Too bad you are not a little mechanical, you could do it all in about 2 hours.
Also, there is a slight possibility the you may still have head gaskets leaking instead of the valley pan.
With your mileage, change from Dexcool to one of the better yellow or green coolants, replace the t/stat and the coolant pressure cap if it is showing wear.

like Disco MIke said. You might also look at the throttle body heater gasket. it is a two minute job with the intake off, 30 minute job while it is in place. Cheap and easy fix either way. Phil

Be sure to check your hoses too. Especially the small plastic lines that run to the throttle body heater, they tend to break when moved. Good luck. Phil

Please don't buy any parts without knowing for certain what the problem is. As Mike mentioned, it could be the head gaskets. Could also be the front cover gasket as well.
Should be easy enough for a competent shop to determine before buying parts.

Yeah I am on a wish that he is correct. The leak is at the back of the engine. if that helps determine between HG vs manifold. Will take a picture tomorrow, in the light. Might help who knows

Thinking about getting this KIT
Head Gasket Set for Land Rover Discovery 2 V8 - BPWBKT4, BPWBKT5, STC4082 - 2004

And telling him to replace all of these gaskets, while he is under there. This a good idea? anything else should I add?

You should have your truck pressure tested to see where the leak is coming from instead of just throwing parts at it.
You started out talking about replacing your intake and valve cover gaskets 2-hrs worth of work and now you’re talking head gasket set which is another 10 -12 hrs.
Don’t get me wrong with 101k on your truck; if you plan on keeping it you are probably going to have to replace them at some time, but a $200 job just became a $1500 job.
Definitely do not go with the cheap gaskets, you’re supply this fellow with the parts if something goes wrong, the first thing he is going to blame it on is “your cheap parts”.
If you or a friend can turn wrenches this would be the perfect job to get your feet wet, you do not want to use your check book to keep this truck running, the truck will break you.
