Default Interior Center Console paint melting / repainting

Like most of the 99-01's I've seen, the Bahama Beige color on the center console is a mess of melting, chipping, decaying. It's cosmetic but man it looks like crap on an otherwise nice interior.

Haven't found a good console without broken tabs etc or the issue I have, so I'm going to paint mine with color matched "Aerosol Water Base Color Coat/Land Rover: 3239 - Bahama Beige" from Superiorrestoration.com (starting with primer SEM Primer surfacer). All w/ rattle cans.

1) Anyone had any success removing the existing center console paint or coating? (simply painting over it won't work and sanding it is like sanding play dough gook). Solvent I tried seemed to soften the plastic. oops.
2) Anyone used superior restoration's products or done this before?

This is all a way to avoid other nastier jobs under the truck haha.

There's no paint to remove. That's the colour of the plastic.

Right, it’s not paint. That’s the plastic color through and through.

Yep, so after looking more closely at it you are all correct - the whole thing is just melting...the truck was CA / TX so guess the heat got to it. Funny how some of the interior parts seem to hold up and some dissolve. Will find a good used one.

there is something about that colour. I had an old Volvo 850, The cars with black interiors fared better than those with the tan. Mine had the tan and it was a serious mess.
