Default Intermittent no start

Hi all...
Ive did some research and still cant figure this thing out. It started fine for the whole time I have had the vehicle (2 months approx.). Last weekend I drove it in the am, parked then went to start it (needed that am coffee) and it wouldn't start. I tried it a few times, banged on the fuel tank and still nothing. My gf was going to come by with a mallet and starter fluid but it started right up. So this is what ive done so far:

replaced the fuel pump
upper intake manifold gasket

If it wont start I can spray starter fluid in the TB and it will start. I pulled a wire and put it on a spare plug and didn't get any spark when I grounded the plug but then I put it back on and then sprayed some starter fluid and it fired up. I do have a small leak on the intake manifold or the o ring for the injector on piston 2. That's what I was hoping to remedy with the upper intake manifold gasket. Anyone have any ideas? Maybe a bad CPS or coil pack?

Are there any codes? CEL?

It could be a bad CPS, or maybe a bad connection. It kind of sounds like the signal from the CPS is dropping out sometimes. Do you have a scan tool with live data? If so, the next time it won't start, watch the RPM on the scan tool. If you have no reading while cranking, most likely the CPS isn't working.

sound like a ckps; but the fact that it runs on starter fluid is the twist.
if it runs on starter fluid it has spark

It would initially run on starter fluid (but was hard to start) now it won't. I think the cps finally died. I just ordered one so I'll let you guys know. Thanks!

you can check it with an OBDII scanner, see if you get a live reading for RPM while cranking, if yes it is not the ckps
