it's almost time...
The Dakar Rally is coming up, this is what I live for year to year. It was cancelled this year because of terrorist threats, but this year they are changing the location and the route so it should be interesting.

RE: it's almost time...
I have not see "Dust to Glory" yet.
I am a AVID fan of the Dakar, I love the production class best of all, that is 100% factory stock off the showroom floor vehicle, they just add the safety and nav equipment.
There are 3 main classes, motorbike, cars and trucks.
Motorbikes are ATV's, quads, motor cycles and motorcycles with side cars.
Cars are SUV's, pick ups, rally cars etc.
And trucks are fun to watch, they are trucks, picture a 4x4 garbage truck doing 80-mph across the Sahara desert and jumping dunes, it is FREAKIN' SWEET!!
There are over 500 enterants every year, and in each of the three main classes are sub classes, modifides, production, amature, which they call privateier, meaning no corprate sponser, just you and your machine. The heart of the race is man and machine in a 4500 mile 15 day race to glory.
You break down it is just you and your co-driver. You are not allowed to replace the engine or transmission, axles etc. You must finish with the same machine that you started with, you can make repairs, but no replacememtns.
The Baja cannot even hold a candle to this race.
Robbie Gordon has been in it for the last couple of years with a Hummer, has yet to finish the race.
It is on tape delay on the Versus channel, it is always one day behind on tv.
I am glued to the tv when this race is on, for 15 days you will not get me away from the tv for anything, my wife has stood naked at the top of the stairs and I said, hold on a minute, let me put a tape in the VCR...after all I'm not stupid.
