It's not always Sunny in Philadelphia
On my morning drive to work, in the pouring rain, check engine light started flashing and truck ran rough. Ultra Gauge alerted me of a misfire in cyl 8. I pulled over to investigate. Got out under the hood (in the poring rain) and started inspecting cyl 8's ignition wire.
All seemed well at the spark plug, following the wire to the coil and no sooner did I grasp the boot end of the wire on the coil, the sum-bitch fell off in my hand! The wire literally separated at the boot end. The boot part of the wire remained on the damn coil. Great
Limped back a few miles to my garage for a diagnosis, CEL flashing and all. I've had a set of Kingsborne 8mm sitting on the shelf for months. Never had the time to install them. Pulled all the plug wires at the coil and found that the terminal for cyl 8 must have been arcing for some time. It was severely corroded inside the coil terminal port. I didn't want to risk all the time, effort, and skin off my knuckles it took to get to these damn coils just to clean the corrosion off, put it all back together, and have it miss again. So, I ordered two new coil packs - next day delivery. Plan to swap them out manyana w/ new Kingsborne 8mm's. Ugh... When it rains it pours

Sorry for your misfortune! I have had the pleasure of working on my Disco in the thick smoke coming from the Yosemite fire... might not be as bad as rain, but at least in a garage you can get out of the rain!
sux. if you go the non im removal method. that bent screwdriver thing helps a lot. I had to go a step further and bent one of those small paint roller frames into a kind of hook. it made thing much easier. hold and guide with one and push with the other.
I used the bent screwdriver method w/ the manifold in place. Worked great once I got the metal SAI tube that runs along the firewall out of the way.
Haha! Even better, Anothony's Coal Fired Pizza next to Main Line Land Rover a little further up Rt 30. You can sit outside on the patio eat redonkculous pizza, sip Dog Fish 60 minutes, and drool over new Rovers.
Well the deed is done. New coil packs and wires in! Don't want to do that again any time soon. That damn SAI tube is bitc$. I somehow managed to remove it w/o disconnecting the heater core coolant lines - manifold in place. But, I couldn't for the life of me get it back in there w/ them connected. Had to pull coolant lines to squeeze it in there. All w/o removing the manifold.
Truck is all back together; might have to re-bleed it tomorrow morning. Temp's a little high at idle, tells me there is a little air trapped. Anywho, all's good in the hood.
Figures it's Sunny today
