yeah neat up until the point where your driveshafts spun and twisted your axle shafts up like paper clips inside the housings...

There are diesel conversion out there, but they are way to expensive for the average person.

are you smoking stuff? I mean i got high hopes for a diesel engine swap, but I want the international HS 2.8L. Go buy a pick up truck with a gun rack if you want those heavy bastards in your rig.

I used to drive a 2001 Dodge with the Cummins diesel. It was an incredible motor and I had mine chipped, 4" exhaust and K&N intake. With the chip on level 5 I was putting out 400 hp and 900 lbft of torque. The problem with the motor is that the dry weight is 1100 lbs. Way too heavy for a Disco unless you're going to rebuild the entire truck. The Cummins 4BT 4-cylinder would be a good choice but it's still pretty heavy for a Disco without a lot of suspension work.

If you want to swap in a Diesel look up the Cummins 4BT none of the weight problems of the 6BT none of the crazy fire wall cutting issues and with a quick set up of the rack and the mechanical fuel injection pump and 300+ ft lbs of torque instantly. They're a dime a dozen in UPS and Chip/Bread trucks with 300K being the first major service. Plus they get low 20's in MPG.
I have A Jeep j10 with the required 3" body lift to clear some drive line issues in that truck to fit the Cummins 4bt. I'm just waiting for the 360 to finish it's self off to replace the engine.
This is the first time in years I don't own anything diesel I sold one of our Jeeps and my 7.3L Powerstroke F-250 to get the Discovery (and clean up the car lot forming up on our driveway). I also parted ways with my W126 Merc. that had the indestructible 5 cylinder TD that ran on WVO and B99. That car was a hoot because I did some mods to the rack,pump and wastegate it booted!!
If anyone decides to go the 4BT route remember to get one that wasn't a PTO engine for a water pump or a electric generator that has the wrong injector pump on it set to run at a constant RPM. They're a dime a dozen out of Chip/Bread trucks just make sure you get all the pieces parts that go with the engine/trany online. They come up with everything on E-Bay right down to the radiator if you're patient and wait for a good seller. The 6bt Weighs a ton and would be a plasma cutting nightmare as well as requiring a body lift to get it to fit.. Also one more note the 4BT's aren't cheap like most diesels and they go fast on E-Bay if it's a good one with all the widgets. Happy Fourth Everyone and SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!!

VW Touareg TDI V10 would be nuts. The V6 might be more realistic power wise.

If you really wanted to just drop one in then get either a 200 or 300 tdi, I think the 200 is mechanincal and the 300 is electronic, I may have them backwards though.
then you just drop it right in, bolts right up to your current bell housing.
