RE: k and n air intake part number?
i just replaced my old paper filter with a k and n filter in my trusty old rover. oops. ive never had a problem with them before but i will pay attention to my baby and see how she likes it. anyway, i got the k and n website to work and they dont make air intake kits for my truck. does any body? and are they worth the hassle/expense? ive never had one on a vehicle but the guys at work run them on their new v8 pickups and claim 2 mpg increase. any truth to this?
thanks

RE: k and n air intake part number?
First the K&N air filter will kill a DII MAF, the DII MAF's are weak and foul easily.
Second, your throttle body is heated, so a cold air intake is a mute point, the "cold" air that you suck in will just be heated by the t-body heater.
Third, the cost of the air filter VS the MPG gain...you will be wasting your money. You will not gain any MPG or HP. And IF you do gain 2 MPG but then have to replace your MAF every 50,000 miles for $200 each, what are you really saving?
The smart money is dont do it.

RE: k and n air intake part number?
What effect does the k&n have on the D1 MAF? I was considering the normal k&n filter to go in the factory air cleaner housing. I so far have not been able to find a filter locally and was thinking of ordering the k&n so I can clean it when it needs it rather than replace it. I have always had good luck with k&n products on my other vehicles. The full intake on my dodge diesel didn't show any actual improvement of mileage but you should hear that turbo spool up with the kit. Sounded awesome. I think anyone that says they see a 2 mpg gain has either changed their driving style to be more efficient or is exaggerating.

DI MAF's are not as sensative but they cost almost $500, so why chance it?
A paper air filter is $20, if you replace it once a year it will take you three years to equal the cost of a K&N air filter.
You wont net any MPG. You have to clean it with their cleaner. In my eyes it is to much of a hassle, and WAY to expensive.

I have heard of the full cold air system making cars run lean and cause problems but never the replacement filter for the factory air box. I hav run the k&n filters in all of my cars (bmw, toyota, subaru, acura, chev etc) and have never had a single problem ecept in one Chev that had the cold air intake and I kept getting the check engine light and a lean code.
