Key: Disco II - lost, replaced, broken
Back story: About a year ago one of my kids misplaced my only Disco II key. I left the car sitting for about 3 months while preparing to spend a good chunk of change to get a new key cut somehow, unsure of how to proceed based on conflicting info in various threads across forums. Finally called my shop and they laughed, told me to call the dealer and just bring my license and proof of ownership and they could cut me a new key. There were 2 options - key FOB/remote for about 100, or just a key for $5. I got 2 keys made so I would have a backup.
A few months later I'm at the mall and *snap* goes key number one in the door. Someone had to drive out with my spare and it lasted a few months. I noticed it was buckling in the same spot as key number one and sure enough, last night, my wife calls me and let me know that key number 2 had snapped off in the ignition. As you can see from the photo... at least their failure point is consistent
So now I'm sitting with half of two keys. One broken off in the door, one broken off in the ignition.
-I need to sort out the best way to remove the portions of the keys that have broken off. Any suggestions on how to proceed for an easy/simple removal?
