Hey all,

Just reaching out to see who else has had this issue/solved it. Everything seems fine with the Rover apart from the fact that I can't turn the key once in the ignition. I can turn the wheel back and forth 1/16th/ish rotation but the steering column lock seems stuck and the key won't turn. Any suggestions will help!

Sometimes I think the tumblers/wafers in the cylinder get stuck. Usually taking the key back out or sometimes turning it around seems to help when the two D2s I've owned have acted similarly.

 

Spray in graphite.
Try to turn the key to the right whilst pushing in gently and trying to center the key.
If the key is a copy - then the copy is not accurate

Or the copy is TOO accurate as the lock cylinder is worn.

 

It's an original key as far as I know... I will try the graphite.

 

I had the same problem with my door, wafers suck. There is a reason why everyone else went to pins. You might try a little silicone and running the key in and out, the wafer may drop back down.

 

Z I had the same issue and the used a little WD40 and all was well again.

 

I have this issue every time I go to start my Rover. I had LR Stealership cut and program me a second key after I purchased the Rover. Long story short, the tumblers were so warn a fresh cut key was to much for the old out of spec tumblers. So, I have to insert the key fully, then back it out to that very temperamental "sweet spot"... chicka zroom!!

No one but me can start it. It's a gem when leaving it with the valet. No worries, pal. I got this one

 

Haha...Rover life.

 

I pulled mine apart and ground down the wafers.

Easy job; took maybe an hour.

 

Success , sprayed in there and worked like MAGIC. Seems fine now! Thanks all.
