Default Knock

Ok here goes.

I have a Disco II with a knock (not a tick).

Symptoms:
-owned the Rover for 20k miles, just started having issue
-starts after engine warms up
-under no load it gets worse when I rev engine
-while braking, in drive, and reving (adding load) completely goes away

Whats causing it?

Using 15w40 oil (as per landroversonly.com advice).
Last oil change was 300 miles ago (no metal flakes).

thanks all

Definitly doesn't sound like rod knock, or it would get MUCH worse under load and/or rpm increase.

I would say either something is loose and moving around or you got a bad catalytic converter.

Default check exhaust

i had a simular knock and it turned out to be my drivers side cat knocking on the side of the frame.. It is close anyway and needed to have a guy at the muffler shop heat up and pry over. Was fixed..

thanks, I'll take a look down under after work today. I was hoping/thinking is wasn't a Rod noise. My check engine light just came on and I'd bet its one of the o2 sensors before the CAT. Had an issue with is running rich and carbonizing a plug set just before last oil change too.

Stop driving it. How mechanical are you.
The longer it knocks, the more it will cost to repair.

Saying that doesn't work as well as it does with dogs. Cats just don't care.
