Default Knocking noise while starting cold

Aby ideas? It only happens when cold and and. Starting. Once starting its completely gone, more like the engine is rocking (I'll check motor mounts) but why only when cold?

Have you changed the oil yet?
What oil filter did you use?
What oil and weight?

And quit starting it till you get this resolved or you will be buying yourself a new engine.

Just changed oil, just bought the truck so previously it was some 5min oil change place and filter. I did rotella 15w-40 this evening.. I'll see if it does it again. I really don't want to make this sound like an oil issue, it's ONLY while starter is engauged

If it is only when the starter is cranking over then I think it is a starter issue, make sure it is bolted in tight.
I have heard of the starter falling off of the engine while trying to start the truck.

That is a clonking sound, right?
You first start it and give it a little gas whilst in drive and you can hear it then while going about 3 mph or so.
After a few minutes - gone.

1997 D1 has done that from about 40,000. now at 165,000 mi on the D1.
The D2 has 95,000 on it and does it too - not as loud.

Pretty disgusting noise - but seems not harmful yet.

Clonk may describe it, but mine is only when starter is engauged

Really does not matter what you put into the engine.
This clonking noise is right from when you start it up, put it in drive and head off.
Loud clatter, more a clonk, clonk, clonk.
A rather deep sounding noise.
And, you NEVER hear it again after that one to two minutes.
Gone until the next time it is cold.
