Labor cost to replace timing cover, timing chain, etc
Hi,
03 D2
I was curious about how much it would cost (or how many hours) to replace the timing cover, including replacing the two gears and timing chain including all that is involved to complete the job. I was quoted $600 from a mechanic I trust, and I feel like that's really high.
He also thinks the Borg Warner fan clutch I got from BPUtah is junk.
I told him no and I will pick it up.
Thanks
Scott

Yes the timing cover I have also includes a new replacement oil pump. Yeah 4 hours seems about right. I called a LR dealer, which I would never go to for this and they wanted $800 to do the job, haha
Thanks,
Scott
Thanks,

$600 including parts seems more than fair to be honest. Especially if you consider the price of a new timing cover.
I feel like an indy rover guy might do less. But only because he's so familiar with the truck he could do it faster.

Sir, that is really valuable information. A lot of us here loath paying someone else to work on our trucks but as an esteemed philosopher said "You got to know when to hold them, know when to fold them ..."
I already have the parts. that quote for $600 to install does NOT include parts.
My original question was for an idea of what the labor should cost.
My thoughts are that $600 is on the high side, especially if it's a 4 hr job
