Land Rover Discovery II “Quick start your Landrover in most cases”
So I’ve picked up this vehicle to travel with, not the best situation on gas and all but it was useful to get me out of state working towards better. The starters are junk but I’ve seen lots about people having issues with the starters so I looked into it more, made by BMW? Yep you better expect it all. It cost me 2,800 just to get the thing from Alabama to Las Vegas, and tourtuured me all the way. If you have issues with the starter though or security I’ll be following up on a simple fix around most of the issues. And I’ll go into more detail about quick fixes if your stranded. All you need is 10 feet of white and 10 of red wire, two small alligator clips, and a toggle switch. Easy hot wire switch hook up, could’ve saved me a lot of time and haste.
I have had 2 starters go bad on a RV8 in 17 years of ownership. 1 on the Jag 4.4 in the LR3. They really aren’t a big issue and cheap at the junk yard.
Never had an immobilizer issue but that could be a lot more difficult to deal with

I've probably replaced 3 Starters in all the years of owning & working on LR's. They all still worked, but they were starting to turn the engines over slow. I've had great results with new Parts Player Starters and the rebuilt units from Auto Zone.
Security wise I did have my 99 D2 act up at the airport remote parking lot at 1:30AM, but I was able to get the alarm to trigger by banging on a window & then I was able to disarm it and get it started. It's never done it since so I'm not concerned about it at all. Then on my very first 97 D1 if I hit some rough roads it would always trigger the flashers, but that's been about it.

The issues can easily be fixed by checking the starter but the immobilizer system was a mistake, this wasn’t the first problems I’ve had with the starter, it died on me because I had a oil leak and it ended up clogging up some sensor I can’t remember off hand, but that’s what cost me the 2,800 for a new starter and fuel pump. Same thing though, the security run around was just done by hooking the alligator clamp to the solinoid on your starter with a toggle in between your starter wire.

It only happened on that 97 D1 I had, and it was just on one bad spot of road by where I used to live. Sadly I only owned that D1 maybe 6 months before it gave it’s life for me in a very serious roll over accident.
