Default Landrover Wiring Contract ???

Hi everybody,

I am looking at purchasing a Landrover Discovery. The 2000 model is very attractive. Someone once told me that BMW did the wiring some time after BL and until before Ford bought Landrover. If this is true, could anyone tell me on what models (years) did BMW have the contracts for.

Cheers and regards

A future Landroverer

Your question makes no since, what sort of wiring are you talking about?

I'm pretty certain you're talking about the electrical wiring and I've heard the same rumor over the years, but have never been able to confirm this. I'm just curious whyit matters to you? I recently had the body shop repair a damaged center console (vandalism)and they thought they would replace the wiring harness for my '99 D1 center console in order to make a D2 replacement work. The D1 center console had been on back order for 9 months. They changed their mind when they found out the whole electrical system is ordered as one piece at $1500 their cost. If you're looking at a disco with electrical trouble... be aware that it can cost. Many owners have complained that one electrical problem can cascade into many problems. I've never experienced it, but have read a number of posts claiming it.

What do you plan on doing with your Disco? Everyday use... off-road... mixture of both...

I think I can help>

Late 1999 started the Disco II hasBosch wiring.
Before that was Lucas. We all know that a light on Lucas
wiring has three selections , Off , Dim, and Flicker.
BMW (Bring Money With) sold to Ford in 2000 after they fixed
the Disco I and put all the cool electrical goodies on the Disco II,
like the Hill going down light and the TC, with the ABS thingie.

So if its Bosch or Lucas it still a Land Rover I think they choose
you not the other way around.

Glad I could Help, now where are my keys?

Thanks for the replys,

The reason behind the wiring issue is this, BMW does far better than BL or Ford for that matter. Most problems in todays cars are wiring related if the wiring is not installed right. Thats why I wanted to know who did the wiring on the 2000 Disco.

Cheers and regards

Maybe you should not be so technical and ask for peoples feels about their 2000 Disco's and what problems they may have had. My May 99 built is a full Bosch system and has not had any electrical issues.

My 97 has only had one problem due to water leaking in the windshield. Took me an hour to diagnose, an hour to find a used fuse box and get it, and 20 minutes to replace.

I wouldn't worry about the horror stories of Lucas wiring. If there is a problem in an older truck, it is probably from someone not knowing what they are doing.

Just my 2 cents.....
