Default Leaking Radiator Replacement - any suggestiions?

I have a 2000 Disco II since new. The radiator was replaced once under warranty about 2 year into its life. Now, it started leaking again and my dealer was advising replacing it again at about 1,200 bucks.

Apparently, this is quite common with the aluminum and plastic combination type of radiator due to different contraction ratios. This problem cannot be fixed and must be replaced.

No one with the right mind would pay for 2 radiators in few years with no assurance that there will not be another replacement in couple years.

I need desperate help from the members, my questions are:
1) Is my radiator problem unique? or other disco owners are having the same problems too?
2) Is my dealer taking me to a cleaner? I felt that way after paying out $3,000 on my last bill.
3) Is it advisable to rebuilt one with Brass (Like the ones in heavy machinery and heavy duty truck)? I talked to one local Radiator specialty shop that what was recommended.

Any constructive sugguestions will be appreciated.

Early DII rad failure was almost guaranteed. All new rads are good to go. Design change.

Just bought a radiator for my 94 disco...it was leakin too.....mechanic of mine said that its a good thing it's not plastic cause you can have it rebuilt and he recommended going to a radiator shop....well i stopped in and the guy told me that i can buy an aftermarket radiator for 300 bucks and if he were to rebuild it, it would be almost the same price....i went with the aftermarket and it was 314.62 with tax....i would def buy one either without plastic or have the one you have rebuilt...but i would def talk to a radiator man about all the possibilities......good luck man

Hi,

It is done with all Brass, no more plastic part on this custom built radiator on my Disco 2000 series II.

So far so good, time will tell how long it will last. Anything wrong with this, it has one year warranty Parts and Labour.

I was told everythig can be fixed with brass radiator. Sincerely thanks for those who commented.

Hello all, I'm about to replace my radiator in a 2000 Disco2. The small plastic tip that goes into the hose (on the top right side if standing facing the motor) broke off so I have to replace the entire radiator. Is the original part platic on the sides? All the ones I've check with the part number given by Land Rover has black on the sides of the radiator. My part number is PCC000650. I found a used 1997 Disco Sport radiator but it has a different part number. I called land Rover who said the part numbers are different but couldn't tell me if the 97 will actually work in the 2000. Does anyone know if this will work, putting the 97 radiator into a 2000? Thanks. I'll also post this in the MOD thread.
Thanks again radiator plastic side tanks? Also

I just replaced the radiator on my 2000 D2. I had the same plastic hose fitting broken on mine. I JB Welded a brass fitting on it, and that held, but unfortunately it also exposed other cracks in other places that were leaking once it was able to fully pressurize again.

I went with a new replacement:

Amazon Amazon

For $100, I didn't spend any more time wondering about options or rebuilds. Replacing it wasn't much of a hassle.
