Let's discuss DII values
To OP's comment about D90 versus a D2
90/110 is stupid simple to own, and far cheaper to run, fix, drive, take apart. Everything is accessible and parts are cheap. On top of that the diesels are even more so. 10-15mpg maybe on a D2, vs 30 on a Tdi 90/110. Defender is just a large upfront cost.
Whoever is paying that cray cray BAT money for D2's is totally fine to do so, their market is for sorted cars that can just be driven around without major headache, for a while at least. No problem with that, they like the car and want it.
At least in US market, Defender is the rare, wow-factor cool off roader that we got almost no examples of (excepting private imports).

Disco values compared to what? I was gonna spend ~$30K on a Land Rover. What I paid for mine gave me a clean solid daily driver (70 miles round trip commute per day) with more than $20K to spare on modifications. On top of that the car is off-road ready. I am slowly replacing the very few parts that are original with the new OEM parts, and a new Turner engine is about two years away.
I guess their worth what people will pay. The “original” bump in value is what I don’t agree with. I’d pay $13k for a good DII w/a Turner Long Block or LS1 swap if the engine had low miles. I wouldn’t pay for a truck with an original non-Tophatted motor.
But they are cool trucks, and I think fun to own. I’ll keep mine for a long long time. I don’t look at other trucks w/envy.

Sold my D2 around Xmas. Miss it often and every time I see one I get sad. But then I think of the giant motherf*cking headache these beasts are and I feel a little better. Never again will I eat a pound of rust taking off the driveshaft to lube it. Never again will I look at an ultragauge. Never again will I stick another tack in my headliner.
Similar to my girlfriend in college. She was smoking hot, dirty in the sack and loved to party. But 99% of the time she was a psycho pain in my ***. Like my D2, totally fun to ride but I’m glad she’s no longer in my life...

Soo.. you sold your D2 almost six months ago, didn’t like it and yet your posting in a Land Rover forum still?

No, I had a love hate relationship and might buy one as a fun third vehicle. Feel free to apologize or blow me.
