Default Lift a daily driver ?

Just wondering about the advantages and disadvantages of putting a 2" lift on my disco 2, both on-road and off-road? My only issue is it is my daily driver and I am wondering if it's going to have negative effects on the maintenance of the truck. Lastly how hard is installing a lift or is it something someone with limited experience with working on cars can attempt?

I hated it. Without bigger tires it looks goofy, you can’t fit into parking garages, but the stiffer springs make it handle better. It also really bangs on the highway.

I went back to stock springs, and don’t regret it. I just don’t off road, and if I start I will lift it when necessary.

The lift is relatively straight forward and doesn’t require a lot of tools except you will want to rent a spring compressor which is what I did. I installed the tf medium duty and it is alittle much of you have your truck stock I hope someone else can chime in on other brands or someone who has the light duty. I chose the medium because I planned on the rack and metal bumpers which I installed and it’s a lot smoother now. But say goodbye to parking garages I’ve been embaressed several times in downtown Pittsburgh having to back out of garages in rush hour but I love the look. But also your wheel and tire setup goes into play I wouldn’t lift it unless you changed that

The lift allows for larger off-road tires, gives you a better view, and looks better. But you will have a stiffer ride with less lee way off road.

My Rig is main issue is PARKING. It's 2.63 meters (about 8 feet 5 inches) tall loaded plus it has a large CB antanea. You have to be constantly aware of height limits and parking garages. The place I live now costs me over 3,000 per month and I don't get indoor parking because of the lift. Ran into some serious **** on a one way road to the airport with a low clearance sign. Missed the sign and heard sirens when I realized I was about to drive into a 2 meter clearance parking garage. Slammed on the brakes honking cars and yelling (7 letter words) from the people rushing to park and get on their flights. Had to inch out the police came over to escort me out. Everyone was looking at me. It was really embarassing. Another time there was an old sign for a rail road bridge that was 7 feet 4 inches. Had I not seen it ... yup .. you guessed it.

It's a constant hassle with Parking and you have to constantly remember and if you get towed constantly remind the driver. But if you can get over that having a lift is great.

I lifted my rig with the OME nitrocharger shocks and 2in lift, put the OME rear springs in the rear and the stock rear springs in the front. I will say it is a way different ride, different as in better. I don’t get that steering wheel death wobble after running over uneven terrain, also much less floaty at speeds. Albeit, the stock suspension was never replaced and had 180k miles. Once the old struts removes, after I compressed them, not one returned, no dampening. A lift is similar to a roof rack, just can’t get into garages is all.

Mine has a 2 inch lift. My daily driver for nearly 5 years. Drive it to my office and use it after regular work for my bee business. No problem for me.

And as for working on the car, makes it much easier unless you are really short. I am 6'2" and over 250 pounds and it is a hell of a lot easier working on my Rover then om my Mustang Cobra.

It's straight forward and you don't need a spring compressor to install 2" springs. You can use the stock bottle jack to push down lightly on the side you are working on to create enough space (there is even tabs on the axles for the base of the jack..). Will need to support frame with jackstands, unplug ABS sensor wires and pull the calipers. All in all each corner shouldn't take more than an hour to do averaged out, first corner in the front and rear will take a little longer as there is a natural learning curve but it's very simple.

Do it and if you hate it you can always go back to stock.
